vs History Makers

The 5th of June 2006 saw the first 7:40 game for us in a long time.
We were to play against the History Makers, whom we have played a few times previously. In fact the first offical game the Yorkies played was against History Makers, although their lineup has changed over the years, just like ours.

The ladders weren't up at the centre so I'm still unable to put it here.

After the toss we had to bat first.
Our lineup included Super Dog, Bendy, Bob, Richard, Jarrod, Pax, Mark and myself.
Super Dog and Bendy batted first, their communication was good as they made 36 with 12 from the first over. Bob and myself batted second, we started poorly when I called Bob through (stupidly) and he was runout, so we lost 10. We lost another couple of wickets early on in our partnership, including the first shot I hit into the net and was nicely caught by Bruce, but the bowling we were facing wasn't really fast, and a few times I was able to leave the crease and play the ball into the side net on the leg side. Bob managed to get the back net several times, as we got the score past 60. Our partnership was 27.
Richard and Jarrod continued their batting prowess as they made an easy 30. Pax and Mark again batted 4th, and coming in with the score on 93, they had very little pressure, although they faced some of the faster bowling. They put on 38 for a team total of 131.

Making that score was all well and good, but what was our fielding going to be like tonight. Well Super Dog opened the bowling, the first batsmen was a fillin player, who had played in much higher grades than this one. The first ball was hit deep towards the back net, Pax took a great catch for a jackpot wicket. A couple of runs were scored, and another 3 wickets taken in the first over for a total of -19 runs.
I bowled the second over, and the first ball was hit to Pax for the catch again. I attempted to spin a couple of balls and sent a couple of quicker ones down. The last two down leg side. My second over had another couple of wickets, and a couple of missed opportunities, including the ball being hit back to me from a no ball, and had I taken it cleanly the runout would have been on. So in the first 4 overs Pax was involved in at least 5 wickets, either catches or runouts. Their first pair ended up making 2. The second pair didn't start much better with a wicket second ball. I can't remember much of their batting, they ended in the negatives. The third pair batted better, and got the score upto 27. The last pair was Bruce and Theo. Theo is a regular fillin player for any team each week. We have played against him on many occasions and he played for us once. He is the number 36 for the Yorkies. Bruce is one of the few names on that team that I actually know. Anyway, they were doing already batting together, but then we kept getting Theo runout. While they were batting one of the teammates kept saying to keep the score above 40 or 31. He was the player who decided several times to hit the ball with the handle of the bat, and wasn't really trying that hard himself.

Anyway, you know that I have to say this now, on the second last ball, Theo was facing, he hit it behing the keeper, the ball bounced off of the net into the side net and then out, I stuck my right hand out and the ball stuck in my hand. Nice catch!

Their teams final score was 24. So that's a 107 run victory, so hopefully we will move upto second on the ladder.

We don't have a game next week due to another competition which is happening at the venue over the queens birthday weekend.

Addendum from Pax:

I think a correction needs to be made to Drew’s humble description of his catch in the last over.

It was NOT a “nice catch”.

It was nothing short of a “great catch”.
