4th June 2007 vs Hacks

The 'Hacks' as they call themselves now used to be Ballarat Toyota.

We started off fielding first and found that this team liked to take to us with the bat. They only had six players so we got the second pair to bat twice, which didn't really help us out that much. They made 158 runs, which was to much for most teams to chase down.

I don't have the bowling figures for this game unfortunately.

Philbert and King took up the challenge of chasing down the total. They started pretty well with 9 from the first over, but Philbert was caught in the second and third overs, and was runout in the 4th over. With most runs coming in 2s, they ended with 13 for the pair. Philbert made 10 from 12 legal deliveries but lost three wickets and faced 1 wide. King made 12 from 8 legal deliveries and faced two wides.

Cap'n saw off a jackpot no ball and then hit a four, a couple more extras came before Mahstar hit a 3 from the last ball of their first over for a total of 15 runs. They were cruising along with several extras and two 4s from Bob, leaving the total at 49 with their last over to come. This over saw the loss of two wickets with Mahstar bowled and then Bob Stumped a couple of balls later from a delivery which was full above hit head. Stupid umpiring decision that was. That over netted -6 to make the partnership of 30. Bob made 14 from 6 legal deliveries and faced a noball and lost one wicket. Mahstar made 10 from 11 legal deliveries, but lost one wicket and faced 4 wides and 2 noballs.

Raddis returned to the lineup to bat with his old partner, the Don. Their first over saw several wides and a couple of 2s for a total of 12. Raddis was caught at the start of the next over, but they recovered with some 2s and a three to net 4 runs from the over. The next over the Don hit a seven and Raddis hit a three but when the Don was Stumped from the last ball meant they had just 9 runs in the over. Their final over saw just 4 runs including a wide. They made 29 runs for the pair with Raddid making 11 from 10 legal deliveries but lost 1 wicket, faced 5 wides and was deemed to have played 3 "pooftas" including the final two balls. The Don made 14 from 7 legal deliveries but lost 1 wicket and faced 1 wide.

Pax and Thorpe came out with an impossible task at hand needing 87 to win. Their first over included three wides and totalled 13 runs. Pax was caught from the first ball and bowled on the last ball of the next over with a 4, 2 and 3 in between to hold the score at 84. Pax was stumped in their third over but then hit a seven the following ball. The final over of the match included two wides, which they made them rebowl even though victory was out of sight. They scored a 5 and a 3 from the rebowled balls, and got 13 from the over to get our score just past 100. The partnership was 30 runs. Pax scored 16 runs from 12 legal deliveries, but lost three wickets and faced 4 wides. Thorpe made 22 runs from 10 legal deliveries, but lost one wicket and faced 1 wide. We lost by 56 runs.

One thing of note was the one of the Hacks bowlers kinda cracked 'em while he was batting, and for some reason decided for one delivery when bowling to bowl underarm. That was much like a softball delivery and almost unplayable. It's not really a sporting thing to do when everyone knows that he could bowl properly.
