Our previous encounter with this team, we got hammered on the 14th May. We lost the match 49 to 91. Tonight we had a full regular team back with both Bruce and King back in the squad. The team consisted Philbert, King, Cap’n Bob, Mahstar, The Don, Bruce, Pax and Thorpe.
We batted first this game and started pretty well with Phil and King taking 13 from the first over and after Philbert hit a five at the end of the second over they had the score at 24. A runout in the third over was a bit of a set back, but they still made 7 runs from the over with a couple of 3s and 2s. Another runout at the start of the fourth over meant they only made 2 runs in the over for a total of 33. Philbert made 23 from 11 legal deliveries and faced 3 wides. King made 10 from 8 legal deliveries, but was runout twice and faced a wide and a noball.
Cap’n Bob and Mahstar came in next and started with some singles to get 4 runs in the first over. The start of the next over Bob faced the third ball rule and was bowled, but then hit a four before Mahstar faced out the over with a wide and ending the over on the third ball rule. The keeper fumbled the ball which gave Bob time to make it in the crease. Mahstar kept in the crease as the keeper threw the stumps down before Bob made his ground, then took off for the other end and made the single. The third over came in singles with a runout in the middle. With Mahstar facing the ball was bounced high and then hit into the side net above the fielder, but unfortunately Bob was unable to make his ground, well that’s what the umpire decided. The last over of the pair had Bob face just one ball which he hit for five and netted 9 runs. The partnership was 14, which isn’t too bad since Bob only faced 8 balls. Bob made 14 runs from 8 legal deliveries, and was bowled once. Mahstar made 6 runs from 14 legal deliveries, but was runout once and faced 2 wides.
The Don and Bruce came in and started meekly with a wide and a runout in the first two balls. Bruce hit a four next ball, and the don a two before some extras ended the over for a net 9 runs. The next over the netted 2 runs after Bruce was caught. They rebuilt the innings from that point with several 2s and singles plus Bruce hit a four which put the score on 67 after 11 overs. Their last over saw a couple of 2s and 3s, and Bruce hit a seven before trying it again on the last ball only to be caught. The partnership was 32 which gave us 79 after three pairs. The Don made 19 from 11 legal deliveries and faced a wide, whilst Bruce made 20 from 10 legal deliveries, but got out 3 times and faced a wide and a noball. That would have to be the most even contribution in a partnership in some time.
Pax and Thorpe started slowly with just six runs from their first over, but built up the momentum, after Thorpe was caught in their second over, with several 2s. They netted 6 and 12 off the next two overs which included a four by Thorpe. The last over Pax hit a seven and they both hit some 2s. Thorpe was caught again which meant the over netted just 10 runs for a partnership of 34. Pax made 28 from 13 legal deliveries. Thorpe made 14 from 10 legal deliveries, but lost two wickets and faced a wide.
Our final score was 113 which can be a competitive score depending on how well we do in the field. Bob and The Don both had a great day in the field to back up their performances last week.
Thorpe bowled the first over and after a couple of noballs he conceded 18 runs. King bowled fairly tight picking up a wicket with The Don’s catch and he netted 4 runs. Mahstar’s over started badly with a couple of noballs and a seven from the first three balls, but ended with a catch and Runout, netting 2 runs. Cap’n Bob picked up three wickets with two catches and a stumping for a net -8. The pair ended on 16.
The second pair played some big shots, Bruce (12), Pax (17), Philbert (-5) and Mahstar (12) had the ball. Pax got one wicket with Bob’s catch, but also was hit for two 7s. Philbert got two wickets with catches to The King and The Don. They took the score to 52.
The third pair came in and scored mostly in 2s. King (8), Pax (-5), The Don (15) and Bob (9) had the ball. Pax’s over saw a runout and catch, while The Don was hit for a seven. The pair made 27 which put them level at the same stage of the innings.
The fourth pair got the remaining runs with just two 4s. The overs bowled by Philbert (10), Thorpe (5), Bruce (11) and The Don (9). We failed to take a wicket with this pair which allowed them to get the runs with two balls remaining, which they blocked out. The Don bowled a good final over, but just couldn’t take a wicket. They made 114 runs. Which meant we lost by a single run.
