2nd July 2007 vs SFS

I know for all those that like to read my ramblings and my view of the stats, this report is late, but now here it is. Our previous encounter with this team we lost by 2 runs.

Unfortunately I was late to this game and missed the first four overs. We batted first and Philbert opened with The King and they made 18 runs. The Don and Bruce came in second pair and didn't score from the jackpot ball and lost a wicket with the third ball rule. They recovered a bit with Bruce hitting a seven and the Don getting a 3 and 4. They netted 11 from their first over. The next over The Don was caught but hit a four next ball. They slowly built the runs, but a runout on the second last ball kept our team total just under 40. The partnership was 21, with The Don hitting 11 from 8 legal deliveries, but lost two wickets and faced 2 wides and a noball. Bruce made 17 from 12 legal deliveries, but was out once and faced a wide.

Cap'n and Mahstar had 11 from the first four balls, but then Bob was caught. Several extras helped kept the score ticking over, and no more wickets fell till the last ball when Mahstar called Bob through for the run and he was runout. Most runs came in singles and a couple of 2s. The partnership was 23 with Bob scoring 14 from 8 legal deliveries, but got out twice and faced a noball. Mahstar made 7 from 10 legal deliveries and faced 3 wides and 2 noballs.

Pax and Thorpe closed out again, and tried some bigger shots that didn't come off they were caught four times between them. Pax hit a four and a seven, while Thorpe hit a four and a couple of 3s. They had 13 from the first three overs, but then in the final over with the help of three extra balls, they scored 19 runs. The partnership was 32 with Pax making 21 from 9 legal deliveries, but caught once and faced 2 wides and a noball, while Thorpe made 15 from 11 legal deliveries, but was caught 3 times and faced 4 wides and a noball.
Our final score was 94 which is a score that probably is below par depending on how well we bowl and field. The previous match against this team they made 122.

They started on -20 for being out of uniform. King (5), Mahstar (6), Pax (0), and Mahstar (32) bowled to the first pair. Wickets fell in each of the first three overs, but the fourth was terrible with a couple of noballs, two 7s and a five. The first pair actually made 43 runs. The second pair added a further 28 with Thorpe (0), King (12), The Don (14) and Cap'n Bob (2) taking the ball. We picked up a wicket in each of Thorpe's and Cap'ns overs. We looked to be in trouble after the 8 overs since they were more than half way to the target.

The third pair had a shocking start with a jackpot runout. Philbert (-2), Pax (7), Bruce (13) and Philbert (-5) bowled to this pair. They played a couple of big shots which resulted in a seven, and five, but also a catch in Pax's over. They had 69 on the board after 11 over, but two more runouts in Phil's second over brought them back to 64 which was just 2 runs ahead at the same stage, and a partnership of 13.

The final pair had a bad start with a jackpot catch and a second catch in their first over, but recovered to get back ahead on the comparison. They needed 17 from the final over to win, but The Don bowled tight and conceeded just 9 runs. Bob (-8), Thorpe (12) and Bruce (10) bowled the other overs.

The final score was 94 to 87, which got us back on track for the finals following three straight losses.
