7th August 2007 vs Lange's Meats

They had new colours and decided to only send six guys.

We lost the toss and were given the ball.

We had some difficulty containing the openers as we allowed 36 runs for the first pair. King (13), Mahstar (18), Bruce (7) and Pax (-2) had the ball. Our first wickets didn't come until the fourth over when Phil and Bob each took a catch in Pax's over.

The second pair added 29 runs with Philbert (5), Mahstar (18), Thorpe (4) and Bob (2) taking the ball. Phil got a runout from his own bowling, Pax got a runout in Mahstar's over, Bob got a runout in Thorpe's over and Phil took a catch from Bob's over. They reached the back net a few times with some seven's.

The third pair added 42 runs with The Don (13), Pax (7), King (13) and Bruce (9) taking some stick. We couldn't get a wicket during this pair, and it wasn't all because we couldn't hit the stumps, some of it was some bad close calls with runouts.

Since they had only six players we got to choose two players to bat again, and we chose the second pair. They came in and made 28 runs. Philbert (-1), Thorpe (8), Bob (6) and the Don (15) had the ball. We had a good start against this pair, with Phil and Bruce both picking up a runout in Phil's over. Pax took a great catch behind the stumps from Thorpe's over. Bob clean bowled the guy with the first ball of his over.

With a large total on the board it would always be a tough chase, but Philbert and King got us going with a steady 32 runs. After an early wicket lost, they recovered to be 22 after two overs. There was a slight setback in the third over when King was runout, but they brought the score back up again. Phil reach the back net several times, with a seven, two 5s and two 4s. He made a total of 29 from 14 legal deliveries, but lost 1 wicket and faced two wides. King made 7 from 7 legal deliveries, but lost 1 wicket and faced a wide.

Cap'n Bob and Mahstar came in needed to add 30 or 40 to keep the target in reach, but struggled early on after Mahstar was bowled. They got the score upto 47 before Bob was caught in the deep. The fourth over saw a couple of extras which helped us get 13 runs for a partnership of 23. Bob made 13 from 6 legal deliveries, but got out once and faced three wides and a noball. The noball was about a foot above his head which he hit like a tennis shot. Mahstar made 8 from 13 legal deliveries, but got out once and faced a wide.

The Don and Bruce came in and needed to made around 40 to keep the target acheiveable. However, consistent loss of wickets and the umpire not calling full toss noballs made it extremely difficult to keep the score ticking over. They both scored in 2s and singles. The Don was caught once as he made 13 from 10 legal deliveries, and faced two wides. Bruce was stumped, bowled, caught and runout as he made 6 from 11 legal deliveries and faced a wide. The net result was a partnership of zero.

Pax and Thorpe came in with the pressure of winning the game off their shoulders as making over 70 in four overs is almost impossible. They started with a jackpot runout and had almost got into positive territory before Pax was caught. They went backwards again in the next over with Thorpe runout and stumped. They hit three 3s in those two overs. After that they kept their wickets in tact as they set about getting the score back over 60. They hit six runs from the second last over and then the final over saw them reach the back net three times with Pax hitting two fours and Thorpe hitting a five. They scored 21 runs from the final over, for a total of partnership of 15. Pax scored 19 from 10 legal deliveries, but got out twice and faced a wide and a noball. Thorpe made 17 from 13 legal deliveries but got out twice.

Our final score was 70 runs. Which meant we lost by 65 runs.

There were few standouts in this game. Philbert had a good alround performance with bat and ball. Mahstar's overs we fairly straight, but resulted in a couple of sevens
Pax bowled resonably well conceeding 5 runs net in his two overs and also batted well with the tough task of chasing down 80. Bob took three wickets in his overs and took a catch and a runout.
