Pre Lim Final vs Black Hill Steve's 12th March 2008

We have had some close games against the Black Hill Steve's and so we came into the match with a fair idea of how to beat them. They had at least one player different from when the last time i played them.

Our team consisted of Pax, King, Phil, Mahstar, the Don, Pup, Thorpe and Cap'n Bob.

We lost the toss and had to bowl first, and we made the most of it taking a Jackpot wicket with a runout. King (-7), Mahstar (12), Pup (2), and Mahstar (18) took the ball.
The partnership was 21 runs which included four 7s and five wickets.

Thorpe (10), Pax (10), Bob (5) and Phil (6) bowled to the second pair conceding 31 runs which included a seven, a four and two wickets.

The Don (5), Pup (8), Pax (0) and Thorpe (10) bowled to the third pair who aren't as devastating as some of their other pairs. They totaled 23 runs with a seven, two 4s and losing four wickets.

King (7), Phil (-1), Bob (-4) and The Don (-1) bowled to the fourth pair. This pair can make 50 or more when they make a good start, but they lost 5 runs for the shirt at the start of the over, and lost an early wicket when King bowled one of them. The end of Phil's over started a string of runouts. Their partnership was 1 run with six wickets including five runouts and a bowled.

The Yorkies Target to win was 72 runs.

Yorkies Batting:
Pax and King came in with the an below average score to chase and lost just one wicket when King was bowled in the first over, but then King let loose a bit hitting a seven, a five, a four and a three, while Pax played the 2s and singles to keep the strike changing. They finished on 43 runs. Pax netted 16 runs from 12 balls, and faced a noball and a wide, while King netted 21 runs from 12 balls after the wicket and faced a noball at the end of the partnership.

Phil and Mahstar made a mediocre start with just 5 runs from their first over, the next over Mahstar was runout when Phil was facing, and then faced a couple of extras. Phil hit two 5s and a three as hit netted 18 runs from 9 balls. Mahstar netted -12 from 15 balls after the three wickets including being caught from the final ball, and faced two wides and two noballs. The partnership was 14 runs.

The Don and Pup lost three wickets on the way to 19 runs. They scored mostly in 2s with a couple of 3s. The Don netted 12 runs from 9 balls after being bowled once, while Pup netted 5 runs from 15 balls after being runout and stumped and faced a wide.

Thorpe and Bob came in with the game virtually won since they were already ahead of the target score. They started slowly with just four runs from their first over, and had a slight setback when Thorpe was bowled. The didn't need to take many risks just one more wicket fell when Thorpe was runout. The partnership was 19 runs, with Thorpe netting 8 from 14 balls including a noball after the two wickets, while Bob made 7 runs from 10 balls including a wide.

The final margin of victory was 24 runs, and so the Grand Final vs SFS takes place at 6:40pm on Monday 17th March.
