With a couple of players unavailable, the chance came for Bartto to play his second game and also saw the return of the Rooster (aka Dog).
Batting first scoring was difficult with Pax and King losing 3 wickets on their way to 23 runs. Pax made 15 from 12 with 1 wicket. King made 6 from 11 with 2 wickets and a wide. Their runs came in many 2s and just one 5 and one 4.
Philbert and Bartto started well with a 10 from their first ball and making a further 7 from their first over. Another 17 runs came from their second over with a 7 and a 5 from Philbert. A couple of runouts and a catch slowed the scoring rate as they netted minus 3 from their last two overs. The partnership was 31 runs, with Philbert making 18 from 11 legal balls, with 2 wickets and 2 wides, while Bartto made 7 from 10 legal deliveries with 1 wicket and 1 wide.
The Don and Dog lost three wickets as they had a partnership of 15 runs. The Don made 12 from 12 balls with 2 runouts and Dog made 3 from 12 balls with one catch. The majority of the partnership were singles.
Thorpe and Bob struggled to get the scoreboard ticking over. Thorpe was runout and caught, while Bob was bowled and caught twice. Only a seven from Thorpe gave them a positive partnership with a total of 2. Thorpe made 8 from 12 balls, and Bob made -6 from 12 balls.
The team total was 71 which is a tough total to defend. The opposition started on -5 due to team shirts, and King (7), Bartto (3), Dog (15) and Pax (11) bowled to the first pair who made 31. King’s over started with a 10, but two catches in a row kept the total manageable. Bartto took a wicket (caught) as he bowled a tight line. Dog and Pax both got hit for 7s, but Pax picked up a stumping.
The second pair went backwards with Thorpe (-5) getting two wickets, caught and runout, Philbert (4) getting one wicket caught, Bob (9) taking three wickets stumped, and the Don (-6) got two runouts. The Partnership was -16.
The third pair started ok, but lost a little in the last two overs. King (9) got one wicket, Pax (12), Bartto (-3) got two wickets runout and caught, and Dog (-7) got three wickets caught.
The final pair came in needing 46 which is achievable without losing many wickets. They made a good start with Philbert (13) bowling the first over, and had 45 on the board half way through Thorpe’s over. A stumping and a catch in Thorpe’s (-4) put a stop to the scoring. Bob (1) had two wickets in the over with a bowled and a runout, and the Don (9) finished it off with another runout. Both Bob and The Don conceded 7s.
The Bowling figures:
Bob 4 for -8 plus a runout.
Thorpe 3 for -9 plus a runout
Dog 3 for 8.
King 3 for 16.
