7th January 2008 vs Beemerz

The team for the first game of the new year was Pax, King, Phil, Mahstar, Malpass, Bruce, Bob, and Thorpedo.

We batted first and opened with Pax and King. They got us off to a steady start after an early wicket when King was caught. After making 6 from the first over they steadily built the runs with a 5 from Pax and a few 2s in the second over. The third over Pax hit a 4 and a 5, while King hit two 5s and they stole another on the second to make it six runs, for a total of 23 in the over. The fourth over King was caught but hit the next ball faced for seven. The partnership was 51, with Pax making 31 from 13 balls and King made 18 from 10 balls after two wickets.

With 51 on the board we were looking for a big score, and Phil tried to continue the scoring rate along with Mahstar, but they stumbled a few times with three runouts and a catch. One runout was from a noball that bounced over Mahstar’s head, and Phil had decided to run. After not scoring on the jackpot ball, Mahstar was runout on the second ball of the over. They recovered a bit, through Phil’s 4s in the next over and helped by some extras to get the score upto 55. Phil hit a seven and a five in the next over to net 10 runs over Mahstar was runout. Phil was caught on the first ball of the fourth over, but they still netted 4 runs in the over for a partnership of 18 and a total of 69 runs on the board. Phil made 10 from 12 after three wickets, and Mahstar made -2 from 6 after one wicket.

Malpass and Bruce took a bit of time to get going with the bat, making just 9 from their first over which included a stolen run. The next over they made 24 runs with Bruce hitting two 3s and they each hit a seven. Their third over, Malpass hit another seven, and Bruce was caught trying to hit another one after the ball came off of the side net first. Their last over netted zero after Bruce was runout and Malpass stumped. The partnership of 42 runs took the total to 111. Malpass made 26 from 12 balls after one wicket, while Bruce made 14 from 11 after two wickets.

Bob and Thorpe made a steady start with 14 from their first over. The next over had one setback with Bob bowled, but Thorpe hit a five and Bob a four to net 10 runs. Bob let loose in their third over hitting two 7s, while Thorpe was caught to net 12 runs. The final over Bob hit another 7 from the first ball, and then they eased out with some 2s to end the innings on 163. The partnership was 52 runs, with Bob making 32 from 12 balls after losing one wicket, and Thorpe made 10 from 12 after losing one wicket.

It’s a big chase and the opposition made the perfect start with a jackpot 7 for 14 runs from the first ball. After that they slowed down a bit. Phil (24) was the unlucky opening bowler, but he kept it to 10 from the rest of his over. Having seen that over, Mahstar (17) bowled the first four balls off the pitch which made it hard to score more than 2 runs, and the first ball that was on line was hit for 7. King (1) and Malpass (0) halted the flow of runs, with a couple of wickets. The first pair ended with 42 runs.

The second pair tried to keep the same runrate, but were unable to as Thorpe (5) bowled fairly tight picking up a wicket on the last ball. Mahstar (-2) managed to get a wicket caught and runout, in between some extras. Pax (-5) got a runout with his first ball and a wicket (bowled) on his last ball. Bob (-4) picked up two wickets and took a bit of banter for bring himself on to bowl out the girl. The pair made -6.

The third pair started ok with six on the jackpot, and a further six runs for the over. Bruce (12) was the bowler of the jackpot ball. King (4) took the next over and was hit for 7 from his first ball, but then got a wicket caught and runout to stop the flow. Pax (-2) got two runouts in his over, after being hit for a 4 and a 3. Bruce (-9) came back at the pair with three wickets including two runouts. The pair made 5 runs total, this left 123 needed to win in the last four over.

The final pair had the impossible task of scoring over 100 runs and started with a runout, but managed to score 10 more runs from Malpass’s (0) bowling. Phil (4) was unlucky to concede two 7s, but also picked up a runout and catch in the over. Bob (0) started with a runout and a wicket (bowled) but ended with a five. Thorpe (-3) bowled the final over and had 7 from his first four balls, and ended with a stumping and a runout. The made 42 runs.

The Yorkies won by 121 runs.
