28th January 2008 vs Fat Bapz

After a week off due to the bye, and some of our team having played an outdoor game vs Gillies St earlier that day, we had a couple of fillins. Our team consisted of King, Jacko, Philbert, Mahstar, Don, Pup, Bob and Thorpe.

We won the toss and elected to bowl first with King (1), Mahstar (15), Jacko (1) and Mahstar (-5) taking the ball. The first wicket came in King's over with a runout, then Mahstar's wayward bowling saw some stolen runs on wides and just a couple online. Jacko bowled well gaining a wicket through a catch. Mahstar's second over was much straighter and gained two wickets through a runout and a catch. The ball that got the catch was a floater down legside that almost hit the roof. I need to talk myself up more in these reports so that I can gain some MVP votes. The pair made 12.

The second pair faced Thorpe (6), Bob (0), the Don (4), and Pup (-3). They had the score upto 26 before a runout and Catch late in Pup's over. There was also a runout in each of Bob's and the Don's overs. The pair made just 7 runs.

The third pair batted better than the first two as Phil (13), Jacko (6), Pup (-1) and King (8) bowled at them. We had a runout in Jacko's over and both a runout and catch in Pup's. The pair made 26 to take the score to 45.

One of their players batted a second time since they had only 7 players. We chose one of the second pair and he ended up batting a little better this time. Thorpe (1), Bob (4), Phil (12) and the Don (-7) took the ball. The batters decided to bat outside the crease, which meant the height of the deliveries didn't matter. The first wicket for the pair came with a stumping from Thorpe's over, then we got a runout in Bob's, and the Don's over saw a runout and a bowled. Our target was 56 for victory.

The King and Jacko opened and played it fairly easy with lots of 2s making 29 from the first 3 overs, they then hit a further 21 runs from the fourth over with two 3s, two 4s and five and a two. The partnership was 50. King made 27 from 12 balls, and Jacko made 23 from 12 balls.

Phil and Mahstar played second and made 14 from their first over with Phil hitting a 4 and a 5, and Mahstar hitting a 3. The next over Mahstar was given out LBW, which netted zero. Their third over Phil hit a four and was caught. Mahstar avoided the third ball rule for a second time by stealing a single after facing two dot balls. in their fourth over Mahstar was caught by the keeper, then hit two from a no ball that was over the head. The partnership was 19 with Phil making 17 from 10 balls, and Mahstar made 0 from 12 balls.

The Don and Pup had no pressure since we were already in front and they scored lots of 2s and hit a couple of 4s. They lost just one wicket from a runout in a partnership of 37. The Don made 25 from 11 balls and Pup made 6 from 10 balls.

Bob and Thorpe came in with the score on 106. After a slow start with 8 from the first over, they hit a four and a seven before a runout ended their second over. The third over Bob hit a 5 and a 7 and was caught, and Thorpe was runout which prevented the total from passing 130. The final over Thorpe hit a 5 and a 4 for a total of 14 from the over and a partnership of 36. Bob made 23 from 14 balls and Thorpe made 13 from 10 balls.

The Final score was 55 to 142.
