14th January 2008 vs Blitzers

The team consisted of Pax, King, Phil, Mahstar, the Don, Pup, Bob and Thorpe. We bowled first and struggled a little against their first pair with just two runouts in the four overs. The Bowlers were Thorpe (4), Mahstar (14), Pax (18) and King (7). Pax was unlucky enough to receive consecutive 7s whilst the batters made a comfortable 43.

The second pair started with a wicket on the jackpot and took a bit of time to get going as a result. Phil (-4), Pup (12), Bob (11), and Mahstar (-1) had the ball. They hit a seven at the end of Pup's over and the start of Bob's over. We picked up a runout at the end of Bob's over to bring ourselves back into the match a bit. The last two balls of Mahstar's over were runouts, with one being a dropped catch that trickled to the bowler close to the stumps. The pair made 18 for a total of 61 runs.

Their third pair lost just one wicket through a catch in their partnership of 55 runs. The Don (11), Pax (12), Thorpe (10) and Bob (22) had the ball in hand. They hit one 7, several 4s and a couple of 5s in the onslaught.

The final pair started with a jackpot wicket, but had enough power in hand to make 19 despite losing more wickets. King (-1), Pup (13), Phil (7), and the Don (0) bowled the overs. We got wickets in each of the overs, with a catch in Pup's over, a runout in Phil's, another runout and a bowled in the Don's over. The total was 135 on the board.

When we are having a good day with the bat we can make that total easily, but on this occassion our middle order struggled just enough to make the total out of reach.

Pax and King played the singles and 2s, but Pax was also caught twice which kept the partnership to 29. They made 12, 6, zero and 11 from each of the overs. Pax made 8 from 11 balls and lost two wickets, while King made 19 from 12 balls.

Phil and Mahstar started off facing a wide, then Phil started hitting making a 3 and two 4s from the first over for a total of 17 runs. The next over started with a 5, but ended with a few dots and a couple of extras to make 9 runs. The next over had a couple of extras and ended with Phil being bowled. Mahstar was given out LB in the last over after facing the third ball rule. The partnership was 26 with Phil making 15 from 7 balls, with one wicket and Mahstar made -1 from 12 balls and one wicket.

The Don and Pup began slowly with just 7 from the first two overs, which included 1 runout. They got the score upto 70 before Pup was again runout. The fourth over saw Pup caught and the Don bowled and netted zero after some 3s and extras. The partnership was 12 with The Don making 12 from 10 balls, while Pup made -8 from 11 balls.

Bob and Thorpe came in needing 69 runs to win, and started well with 12 from the first five balls, before Bob was runout. The next over Thorpe faced all six balls, which included two noballs, and three wides. Still needing more than 50 in the last two overs Bob was stumped trying to attack the ball. Some more negative bowling with some wides prevented any chance of victory. Bob was bowled in the second last over as well. The final over saw Thorpe hit a 5, and Bob a 4 as well as being bowled. The partnership of 22 took our total to 89 runs. Bob made -5 from 9 balls with four wickets, while Thorpe made 11 from 7 balls. The also had 8 wides or noballs in the total.
We lost by 46 runs.
