The team was King, Mahstar, Thorpe, Bob, Phil, Pup, Pax, and The Don and we faced the Diggers who have changed some players from when we used to have some close encounters with them.
We bowled first because they didn’t have a full team at the start of the game.
We struggled to pick up wickets in the first pair, as we missed several fielding chances either catches or runouts, and as a result they put on 50 runs. King (10), Mahstar (18), Thorpe (15) and Bob (7) delivered the ball.
The second pair we prevented them from getting too far away with a runout in Pup’s over, and another three wickets in Pax’s over, and a lucky runout at the start of Mahstar’s over. The overs were taken by Phil (19), Pup (10), Pax (-9) and Mahstar (14). Pax brought us back into the game with that over. The runout at the start of the 8th over was a dropped catch on the back net that trickled on the bowlers stumps. The partnership was 34.
The third pair lost four wickets on the way to 29 runs. The Don (17), Pup (-2), King (4), and Pax (10) had the ball.
The last pair added 48 and lost 2 wickets in the process. Thorpe (16), Phil (6), Bob (13), and the Don (13) bowled the overs.
We were chasing 161. Pax had the best bowling figures conceding a net 1 run in 2 overs.
With a large target to chase, Pax was put in first with the King. They got off to a great start with 10 from the first ball, and another 10 from the next four balls including a wide, before King was caught on the last ball. The next over was an easy 11 runs. The third over King was stumped and also got a 5 which included a stolen run. They netted six runs for the over. Their last over got 12 runs including a four from the last ball. The partnership was 44 runs. Pax made 29 from 9 balls while King made 9 from 12 balls after the two wickets.
Phil and Mahstar came in second, and made a slow start with 5 runs in the first over. The next over Mahstar was runout attempting a single, while Phil hit a 3 and 4. The third over saw Mahstar caught off the side net, and netted 1 run. The last over had 2 wides and a noball, and had 9 runs before a runout off the last ball. The partnership was 16. Phil made 17 froim 8 balls, while Mahstar made -9 from 11 balls after three wickets.
The Don and Pup came out a batted well with little risk, scoring mostly in 2s. They made 12, 9, 8 and 14 off each of the overs for a total of 43. The Don made 21 from 12 balls, while Pup made 18 from 10 balls.
Thorpe and Bob came in needing 59 runs to win which was going to be a tough task against a good bowling attack. The started with 6 from the first two balls, but then Thorpe was caught before ending the over with a four. The next over saw both Bob and Thorpe each caught as they netted zero. They scored 15 from their third over with Thorpe hitting a four and Bob a three. Needing 39 from the last over, an early runout made the task impossible. Bob hit a seven from his final ball as they netted 11 from that over for a partnership of 31. Thorpe made 4 from 12 balls after three wickets. Bob made 23 from 11 balls.
