16th April vs Black Hill Steve's

Ok, so I've gotten a little behind with posting this report.. so here it goes, we started off by bowling first in this match versus Black Hill Steve's. Our previous encounter with them was on 26th of February and we won 109 to 88, you can read it here.

For this game our lineup saw The Don and King batting first, Cap'n Bob and Mahstar second, Philbert and Bruce third with Pax and Thorpe closing it out.

Black Hill Steve's first pair made 20. Philbert (6), Thorpe (1), Mahstar (6), King (7) were the bowlers. At least one wicket fell in each of the first three overs. The second pair made zero with the overs bowled by The Don, Mahstar, Cap'n Bob, and Pax. The third pair made 6 runs, with Bruce (-2), Pax (-1), King (1), Thorpe (8) sending the ball down. The final pair more than doubled their team's score adding 37 runs. The bowlers were Bruce (10), Philbert (8), Bob (6), and The Don (13).

So many times against this team we become complacent, after the first two pairs, and let the two better pairs get on top and put a decent score on the board. This time we kept the third pair down, but still allowed the final pair to hit a bit.

Needing 64 for victory, Don and King opened the batting and made a decent start with 9 and 8 from the first two overs, scoring with 2s and singles. The third over added another 6 runs including a wide. The fourth over the Don didn't face a ball, and King didn't score but was out twice stumped. The partnership was 13 with The Don scoring 10 runs from 5 legal deliveries, and King scoring 11 runs from 18 legal deliveries, but was out twice and faced a wide.

Cap'n Bob and Mahstar batted second, and started with a 3 doubled to 6, and scored another 1 before a catch and runout took the score back to 10. Bob hit a five from the last ball of the over to give us 2 for the over. The next over started badly with another catch and runout from the first two balls, but we scored another 7 runs for the rest of the over, and they kept their wickets in tact for the rest of their innings. They scored 10 and 14 from the next two overs, with several 2s, a couple of 3s, a couple of singles and some wides. The partnership was 23 with Bob making 27 from 11 legal deliveries, but lost two wickets and faced 3 wides. Mahstar made 8 from 9 legal deliveries, but also lost two wickets and faced 1 wide.

Philbert and Bruce were next in and started with Phil making a big shot but got runout on the jackpot ball. The rest of the over and the next one they scored a few 2s and had the score back upto 39 before Bruce was bowled. The next over Phil hit a seven which helped get the score to 16 in the over following a couple of noballs and 2s. Their last over had just one stumbling point when Phil was runout. The partnership was 17 which had our total on 53. Phlibert made 19 from 12 legal deliveries, but was runout twice and faced 1 noball that he scored a single from. Bruce made 14 from 11 legal deliveries, but lost the one wicket and faced one noball.

Pax and Thorpe came in needing 11 runs for victory, which meant there was no real pressure on them. They started slowly scoring just 7 in their first over. Thorpe hit a five and a seven in the next over which netted 19 more runs. This gave us the lead. There were several wides in the next over that ended with Thorpe hitting another five. The final over they took it a little easier scoring just 8 runs to ease the score over 100. Their partnership was 50 runs. Pax scored 12 from 10 legal delivieries and faced two wides and two noballs. Thorpe scored 26 from 8 legal deliveries and faced two wides.

The final score was 103 to 63.

Bruce was Almighty in the field as he picked up the ball whenever it went within a couple of feet of him, and even got a few runouts in the process.
