27th November 2006 vs Marbles

There was no toss for this match as the other team only had 6 players for the start of the game. Our lineup included Bob, Mahstar, Pax, Bruce, Don, King, Thorpe and Daints.

They batted first and started with Bruce taking a catch first ball. After a poor start their first pair made 30 with the overs bowled by King (3), Mahstar (-2), Pax (20), Thorpe (9). There was a seven hit from King’s over and from Pax’s over. Mahstar’s over started with King taking a low catch and ending with the batsmen playing the ball onto his stumps. It was the second bounce that put him off. Their second pair came out and made another 43 runs with the overs bowled by Bruce (10), Mahstar (12), Bob (10) and Don (11). We took no wickets in that pair. Their third pair managed just 1 run as they lost a wicket in each over. The overs were bowled by Pax (2), Daints (0), King (2) and Daints (-3). There were runouts by Bruce, King, and Pax and another wicket through a catch. The final pair made 55 runs with the overs bowled by Thorpe (12), Bruce (11), Bob (22) and Don (10). We picked up 1 wicket through a runout in the final over. There were three 4s, four 3s and a seven hit. So we needed 130 runs to win the game.

The way we started was the same way that they did, with Bob being caught first ball. From that point we recovered quite well without losing another wicket. We ended up making 24 runs which included 5 wides and 2 noballs. The rest of the runs came from 2s and singles. Bob made 5 from 12 after the wicket and faced 4 extras. Mahstar made 10 from 12.

Pax and Bruce batted 2nd and put on a consistent performance without losing a wicket they made 30 with singles and 2s. Pax made 16 from 11 and faced 1 wide, while Bruce made 8 from 13 and faced two wides.

Don King set the score back with wickets every over. They recovered a little bit with a couple of fives. To make a total of 6 runs. Afterwards Don and Bob had a bit of a pick on each other session. Don made 5 from 12 and faced two wides, after being caught twice. King made -7 from 12 after being caught once and runout three times. He faced one noball.

When Thorpe and Daints arrived at the crease they needed 70 runs to win, so it was a little out of reach and therefore there was less pressure on them to make runs. They played their innings quite well without losing a wicket until the final over, where they lost two. Most of the runs came in 2s with some 3s and a couple of extras. They finished with 26 runs, with Thorpe making 12 from 13 and Daints making 8 from 13 and facing 3 wides. Our total was 86 runs.

Our best bowling figures came from Daints with 2 for -3, King had 1 for 5 and Mahstar had 2 for 10.

Our first pair recovered well after -10 from the first ball. King pulled off an amazing one handed stop and then threw the stumps down while still lying down. All up our batting was pretty good, it was just that 130 was a little to much for us on the night. They are a quality opposition and I’m sure we’d do better next time we face them (if at all). Our general fielding was good, with some nice saves and catches. The opposing batsmen saves some runs for us, by hitting the ball into the non striker. They saved atleast 6 runs.
