20th November 2006 vs History Makers

The start of a new season and we faced the History Makers for the first time in a few seasons. Daints was unable to make this game following his century on the weekend. Our lineup included, Cap’n Bob, Little Mahstar, Pax, Santa, Bruce Reid, Jacko, The Don and The King.

I was a few minutes late to the game and so they started fielding with 7 players, I came on at the start of the third over which I bowled. King’s first over must have been a good one with -8 runs from it. Rob bowled the second over and conceded 3 runs. Mahstar’s over started with a wide way down legside followed by a runout after the ball was hit straight back to the bowler and could have been a catch but the ball was picked up after a bounce then taken to the stumps. A total of 6 runs came from the third over. Pax bowled the 4th over and picked up a wicket on the first and last balls. With a bowled and runout and a total of -7 runs from the over.

Their second pair were better making 32 runs with the overs bowled by Bruce (10), Mahstar (10), Jacko (3) and Rob (9). The bowling for this pair wasn’t to bad with less than 2 runs a ball conceded and Jacko picking up a wicket by bowling a guy after Bruce got a runout the previous ball. There was one 7 hit from Jacko’s bowling.

The third pair lost a couple of wickets early, and lost a wicket each over finishing with a partnership of 6. The overs were bowled by Don (-5), Cap’n (3), Pax (6) and King (2). They never reached the back net with nothing higher than a 3 being scored.
The Don’s over saw a catch and runout by Bruce, with the runout following a drop catch. It’s all about the individual, couldn’t let the wicket go towards the bowler.

The final pair was Theo and Bruce, and they started off with Theo being runout first ball and then Bruce being caught behind. They ended up with a partnership of 7, with the overs being taken by Jacko (-10), Cap’n (15), Don (-2), Bruce (4). They managed to reach the back net 3 times.

So we were chasing a low total of 39.

Cap’n and Mahstar had it a little easy for the first over making 7 runs with twos and singles. Our second over mahstar was caught once while we scored another three 2s and two singles. The third over started our sinking. Cap’n was runout and caught twice with Mahstar making a single and getting runout in between. Our 4th over Mahstar was runout when he should have stayed in the crease after Cap’n called ‘No!’. We made zero from the fourth over to finish with a partnership of -9. The will hurt our average. Bob made -4 from 11 balls and Mahstar made -9 from 13 balls, we both got out 3 times and each faced a wide.

Pax and Rob came in second pair, and went about rebuilding our innings they made 7 runs from the bat and Pax got caught, the next over they got a few 2s, a three and faced a couple of wides. Pax was runout when Rob was facing and was caught in the third over. The last over Pax hit a four as they made 11 from it. The partnership was 24 runs with Pax making 1 from 13 balls after losing 3 wickets and facing four wides. Rob made a comfortable 15 from 11.

Bruce and Jacko started slowly with a jackpot wide, making 9 from their first over. They built it up from there with 13 and 14 from the next two overs. Bruce called Jacko through for a stolen run when they already had two. Bruce got caught in the last over, but they still made another 9 runs. The back net was reached four times with one five being hit. They made 45 runs with Bruce getting 16 from 14 and facing another 4 wides (including a jackpot ball), while Jacko got 13 from 10 and faced a wide and two no balls.

Don and King made an easy 33 runs with just one wicket when The Don was runout. They faced another 8 extras which was almost half the partnership. The back net was reached just once with the rest of the runs coming from 2s and singles. The Don made 4 from 13 balls after the wicket and faced another 5 extras, while King made 13 from 11 balls and faced another 3 extras. There were three wides in the final over and if the re bowled them, then we might have made it to 100.

It was a comfortable victory in the end versus a team that we might not face again this season, depending on how many teams are in the competition. Some things of note was Pax got hit in the shoulder while keeping twice with one ball bouncing back and the Little Mahstar taking the catch and the other falling short. Rob had a wonderful performance with the bat making 15 with little risk. Bruce took a difficult catch but then dropped what should have been a easy one a couple of balls later. Jacko and the Don both took 3 for -7 when bowling. We faced a total of 18 wides and 3 no balls when batting, and bowled less than 10 wides or no balls.
