MVP - 21/8/06

A tough battle but a valiant loss. Despite Thorpe being the clear favourite of most punters due to his clean hitting, best a-fields were given to 5 different players this week making for a very even round of voting with the 2 and 1 votes finally coming down to a count back. Very exciting. Again, all but one player figured in the voting (no Drew, it wasn’t you this week).

Final 3-2-1 were:

Votes for MVP

3 – Thorpe – “A shining star.”

2 – Pax – “His consistency is sickening.”

1 – Bendy - "Cool under pressure with bat, took valuable wickets.”

Thorpe takes an early lead with votes two weeks running. Interesting to see that last year’s winner is still to get on the board. Tall poppy syndrome? Or is it “Brownlow” Hangover?

Running Total MVP

4 - Thorpe

3 – The Don, Phil

2 – Cap’n, Chanka, Pax

1 – Little Mah-Star, Bendy

The Don and the King maintained their lead in the pairs batting, but with The Don out for at least two weeks that looks likely to be short lived. Daints and Thorpe are the big movers this week and if they can retain their partnership, considering the level of injuries the team is suffering, they may have a shot at the title.

Pairs Totals:

The Don – The King – 42

Chanka – Phil – 29

Daints – Thorpe - 27

Cap’n – Little Mah-Star – 21

Pax – Bendy - 18

Pax – Daints – 6

Thorpie – Malpass - 1

Even though I’ll be out of the team for a couple of weeks, I’ll still be collating the votes so make sure you get them in nice and early. Go Yorkies!
