With a changed lineup due to injuries and President Pax attending a meeting at the Whitehouse, the callout went to Phil & Jacko with Thorpe also playing. This meant just one regular pairing with Cap’n and Little Mahstar batting first pair. The King and Philbert took 2nd spot, Bendy and Thorpe were 3rd and a return to seasons past with Daints and Jacko back together. Philbert, Thorpe and The King received their baggy greens before the start of play.
After the toss it was decided that we would bat first, so here’s how it started. Bob took the jackpot ball as usual, and a wide took the score to 4, next ball was a runout, followed by a couple of wides and ending the over with two dot balls. The start of the next over became the third ball so we had to score and Bob got a single. A dot and a wide followed, Mahstar hit the next ball but it was fielded and Bob got runout. The over ended with a single and a dot ball. We had 2 runs on the board at this stage. The next over started with a single and 2 then a wicket and ended with a single, 2 and dot ball. The last over we faced the bowler was swinging the ball heaps towards legside, Bob faced the first wide then hit the next ball for 5 after the ball was miss fielded. That was one of the few mistakes they made in the field all night. Mahstar faced out the rest of the over with the ball heading towards leg side, the first one clipped the thigh so no run, then the next three balls went down legside and were called wide. The partnership total was 16 with 13 from the 4th over.
King and Philbert continued our batting with a jackpot wide first up, then a great shot for 2 by the King. Phil faced a couple of dot balls before hitting a nice shot, but ended up being runout. King ended the over with a single. The next over started with Phil being runout as they crossed, then a wide and two. King got runout and a single with Phil hitting a four in between. This took the team total to 17. King hit the next ball for 3, then Phil was caught off the side net after playing a shot over the slips. The rest of the over saw King runout twice and Phil hitting two 3s in between. The first ball of the last over was faced by King and was hit for two. The next two balls were hit for 3s, then Phil hit the last ball he faced for four. King was caught before the crossed next ball and so faced the last ball of the over which he hit for four. Their partnership was 6 runs for a team total of 22.
Bendy and Thorpe started with a jackpot dot ball, then Bendy took a two. Thorpe was runout, then Bendy was caught and the over was closed out with a dot and a single to Thorpe. Starting the second over with a dot and catch, this set the score back to 10. The rest of the over was 2, 2, 3, 1 starting with Bendy and alternating strike each ball. Their third over had a catch, single, RO, two, dot and single, with Bendy facing the 2nd and 4th balls of the over. Thorpe faced five balls in the last over with Bendy scoring 2 from the 2nd ball. Thorpe got two 2s with a two wickets (Caught and Bowled) and a dot ball in between. The partnership was minus 14.
The pressure was on Daints and Jacko to get us a score that we could defend. Daints hit the Jackpot ball was to the side net for a total of 4 runs, then the next two balls he faced he was runout after some great fielding stops and throws at the bowlers end. Meanwhile Jacko made 11 runs at the other end with the help of a couple of noball calls. Next over played out with 2, dot, two singles, a 3 and then Jacko got Bowled. The team total was on 15 after 14 overs. That’s a runrate of 1.07 per over. The third over of the pair had two singles, two wickets (Caught and Bowled) , a 2 and noball. The final over resulted in this sequence, 3, dot, 3, 4, 2, wicket. That took our team total to 18 which is a runrate of 1.125 runs per over, which is the lowest that we have had in quite a long time.

When it came to the bowling and fielding, the first over was bowled by the King and started with a Legside wide, 2 and single, and ended with a catch, 3 and 2. Little Mahstar bowled the second over and bowled a couple of noballs and was hit towards the back net a couple of times, the last ball was the murili delivery which is a throw. The total runs conceded was 13 in the second over. Bendy bowled the third over and started brilliantly with two runouts and finished with a single, two and four. Mahstar had to bowl the 4th over, and couldn’t do a lot to contain the batsmen. The back net was reached a couple of times including a seven, for a total of 18 runs in the over.
By this stage we knew that we wouldn’t be able to win the game without a lot of luck in the field. They had 35 runs after 4 overs.
The fifth over was taken by Jackpot Jacko and conceded three 2s, a five and took a catch. Daints came into play conceding 1, 2, catch, 2, noball + a stolen run, and a dot ball. Phil conceded 2, 2, 7, Nb, dot, and 2. Thorpe bowled three wides and two 2s with a dot ball. The partnership was 34.
Cap’n Bob took the jackpot and was hit for a two that was doubled. The rest of the over saw three 2s and seven and a wide were they stole another single. Bendy had the 10th over with the first two balls hit for two and single, and then he bowled the batter with his third ball. Next ball was hit for seven and then two more 2s ended the over.
The King conceded three 2s and two legside wides. By this time their team total had reached 108. Daints bowled the best over of the match conceding a single first ball, then got the hattrick with catches to Jacko, Phil and Thorpe. The over ended with a single and two. Their partnership was 28.
Jackpot Jacko took a wicket from the jackpot ball with a runout. The rest of the over was a single, dot and three 2s. Bob’s next over started with two wides with a noball that had a stolen single in between, and ended with two 7s with a two in between. One of the sevens Bob got his hands two but it was going to hard. The total score was 117 after 14 overs. Phil and Thorpe bowled the final two overs, with phil’s over taking three wickets (one bowled, two catches), a two, a three, and a five. The second catch was a one handed off the side net by little mahstar. Thorpe’s over started with a seven, then two wickets (bowled and caught) and ended with a three and two. Their partnership was 17 runs.
The final score was 18 to 114, which isn’t to bad considering they were in a grade above us. We got the draw for the next few weeks and it looks like we could have some hard matches this season as we are playing against some teams that were in the same grade as Langes and Towners last season.
The bowling summary is as follows:

The King | 1 st, 11 th | 1 for 17 | 0 |

Some things of note from this match, high and low lights. Cap’n Bob got caught after the ball deflected from his partners arm, that stung and is a little sore now.
Daints got a hattrick of catches. Phil took a brilliant catch as the ball went past him, Mahstar took a one hander from Phil’s bowling. Mahstar tried the Murili ball which had no real speed but did got straight down the pitch. He also bowled a leg spinner that landed off the pitch and came back almost enough to hit the stumps, about a metre to wide. Daints took a few good catches when he came out from behind the stumps. Jacko had some good work behind the stumps when Daints was bowling. A couple of missed catches by Bob, King and Thorpe, some were extremely hard chances.
Part of the reason why we lost by so much was that we were runout 10 times and only picked up 3 when fielding, but we only lost 8 more wickets than they did, so we were 56 runs difference without all the wickets.
Next week we are playing at 7:25pm
