Grand Final vs Dream Team

The date was July 24th 2006.
Our lineup was Super Dog & Bendy, Cap'n Bob & Dave, The Don & The King, Pax & Daints.

After much discussion since the semi final last week, the decision was made that batting 1st was a better idea against this team. We figured that they tended to crack under pressure and get angry. When you consider that in the Semi Final they had the score over 100, but finished on 83. Their last pair seemed to throw wickets away towards the end of the partnership, and we were counting on something similar for this game.

Super Dog & Bendy opened the batting for us, and had a bad start with Super Dog getting out from the jackpot ball, and so were immediately -10. That wasn't what we were hoping for at all. They managed to pull the score back to -3 after the first over, then to 5 and 8 after the next two overs. The final partnership was 12, which is a good recovery, scoring 22 from the 2nd ball faced. At this stage it looked like we might struggle to set a decent total, but Cap'n Bob & Dave came in and steadily brought the total up with 6 from their first over, 4 from the next then 8 and 12 from the other two overs. It was a good partnership of 30 which started to make the total look decent.

The Don & The King, batted pretty well, but lost a few wickets in the middle overs which prevented them from getting a big partnership. They had the score hovering between 38 and 47 for awhile but got some good shots in the last over and got the team score to 55 and their partnership to 13. Pax & Daints have been the most consistent pair all season with just one score under 20. Tonight was no exception either, they consistently scored the twos that were needed to keep the score ticking. The first over faced was much faster than the other three, which allowed Pax and Daints to find the middle of their bats. They made 8, 13, 10 & 10 from each of the overs faced. The teams total was 96 which is a very defendable score, even though we had only won one game with a score of under 100.

The King bowled the first over, and didn't conceed more than a 2 for any ball and also made a runout. Super Dog bowled the second over and with a runout on the second ball kept the team score under 10. Bendy bowled the third over and it was a great over but for a 7 hit from the last ball, but that can happen to anyone, another runout was achieved which got the score back under 10, but the last couple of balls saw the score reach 20. Pax bowled the 4th over and Bendy made a runout on the 3rd ball, The Don made a runout after the ball was hit to the back net and Pax made a runout from the last ball. Their first pair finished with the score on 10, which was 2 runs behind at the same stage.

Dave bowled the fifth over, and the jackpot ball was hit straight back, Dave got a finger to the ball and the ball hit the stumps for the runout. Bendy got another runout on the 3rd ball. The first dot ball of the innings was bowled on the 4th ball of the over. The score after 5 overs was zero. The Don bowled over number six, and got a stumping on the second ball, had a couple called down legside with a net result of 6 runs. Cap'n Bob bowled the 7th over with the first ball Caught by The King, and then next ball a runout by Bob. Only a 7 from the last ball saw the runs conceeded back into the positive. Super Dog bowled the 8th over and was fairly consistent. A couple of mis fields allowed some extra runs. The teams score after the second pair was 20, leaving another 77 needed for victory. Which is quite possible in 8 overs.

The King bowled over number nine, conceeding 14 runs. The Don had the 10th over and had just one 4 hit, a couple of 2s and The King made a runout in the middle. Daints took the 11th over and was hit for 7 from the first ball, but didn't conceed more than 2 for the rest of the over. Dave made a runout from the last ball of the over which left the score at 47. Bendy bowled the 12th over and started with The Don taking a runout opportunity and ended with Cap'n Bob taking a catch and a runout from the last two balls. The pair ended with the score on 35.

Pax bowled the 13th over, and with the batting team needing 62 to win, all the pressure was on them to score quickly, but Pax didn't allow them to with a couple legside calls and just one 4 conceeding 11 runs. Cap'n Bob took the next over and after conceeding 1 run, Pax and the Don got runouts on the next two balls. This was followed by a two and then Pax taking a catch and ending with another 2. The over acheived -10 runs. Daints bowled over number 15, and had conceeded 20 runs before Pax made the stumping on the last ball. Dave bowled the last over of the match and had consecutive wickets with a catch to Bob and Pax behind the stumps. They ended with 44 runs on the board. A 51 run victory.

In the Grand Finals, the umpire awards a player of the match, and this was awarded to Cap'n Bob for making 11 runs from the bat and 5 wickets in the two overs bowled.

These are our bowling figures.

The Don1 for 111

We had a great all round season, with everyone performing well at some stage during the season. The MVP voting has increased everyones enthusiasim, and added some extra incentive to the matches. It will be interesting to see who gets the most votes over an entire season.

Great to see some bowling stats! Wouldn't it be great if Mrs Pax took on the role of stat keeper?

It certainly would be. Do you think that more stats would influence the voting?
