Our player line up included, bob, david, pax, mark, Thorpe, phil, Richard, and myself.
We won the toss and decided to bowl first. I bowled the 2nd and 6th overs. My first over included several no balls. One no ball was hit for 7 and then we got the runout, so it was a 14 run turnaround. I made one nice stop it was hit straight back at me, and possibly could have been a catch, but stopped a possible 5. It certainly stung a bit, luckily it was my left hand and not my bowling hand (not that it'd make much difference.) My second over wasn’t as good as the first. But wasn’t to bad. Anyway, Their first pair made 27.
Our opponents 2nd pair made about 17, and 3rd pair made 5. Their final pair put on 40.
Some of their players were leaving the crease early, and Pax gave one guy a warning on the mankad. We generally don’t like to mankad people, although if they do to us, then we should too. It isn’t a fair way to play, but neither is being half way down the pitch before the bowler bowls. So we were chasing 89 runs.
Phil and David batted first and made 29 in the first over, but then lost several wickets, and ended up on 9. Bob & myself batted 2nd pair, we were going along nicely, but a few runouts cost us some runs. Bob had been stiring up the opp while we were bowling, cause they had been trash talking from the bench. So when we batted they tried to bowl some head high balls. Whilst running, after hitting the ball into the leg side net, I got hit in the back of the head by the ball. It was accidental, I ran up the middle of the pitch and they tried the runout. It stung a little bit, but didn’t hurt too much. The next ball I faced was full and high. I’m not sure if that was deliberate or not. We finished with a partnership of 11.
Richard and Thorpe (in his first game for yorkies) batted 3rd, and played some great shots. They ran well between the wickets, and ended up making 34. We were cost a couple of runs, after the ball hit the back net, and the umpire didn’t see it nor did the fielders signal that it did. Next time I reckon we need to mankad them without the warning. Pax and Mark batted 4th, needing 36 for victory. The first couple of overs faced they scored and few runs and lost a couple of wickets. They needed 25 from the last two overs. They scored 6 from the 15th over, which meant they needed 19 from the last over. They lost a couple of wickets, and faced a few wides, when it got down to the last ball of the match, three times a wide or noball was called resulting in the ball being rebowled. This enabled Pax and Mark to recover the score back upto 70. This meant their partnership was 16.
