5th February vs Boons

This week saw the return of Mr DaveCricket as well as Rob. With the retirement of Bendy due to other commitments, King away and with Pax still on leave, the spots were open. Bruce was originally going to play but pulled out.

So our lineup included Cap'n Bob & Mahstar, Mr Cricket & Rob, Philbert & The Don, Thorpe & Daints.

We were sent into bat first and with the rejoining of some regular pairs we made a decent start with Bob & Mahstar opening there was no run from the jackpot ball, but next ball hit for four. Bob scored from every other ball he faced, and we had 10 from the first over. The second over started with a wide and followed by Mahstar being caught behind, but we convinced the umpire that we had crossed. A three and three 2s completed the over to take the score to 16. We didn't lose another wicket and faced the third ball rule in the fourth over, but they bowled a noball off the pitch. We made 29 with Bob making 19 from 9, and Mahstar making 6 from 15 after 1 wicket and facing a wide and noball.

Mr Cricket and Rob were second pair, and started with Dave setting off for a run but geing sent back resulting in a jackpot runout. They lost just one more wicket after that with Dave being caught from a shot that would have been six in outdoor cricket. They made alot of 2s, and having lost 15 runs in the first over they ended up making a total of 10 runs, with Dave making -4 from 14 after the two outs and facing a wide and a noball, while Rob made 8 from 11 and faced a wide.

Philbert and the Don came in third and the first ball Phil hit straight and was runout at the bowlers end. They made a bit of a recovery with 13 from the second over they faced, but two more wickets slowed their progress. Philbert was caught twice. The Don used the fielder well to deflect it onto the back net for a five. They made 18 runs with Philbert making -7 from 13 after the 3 wickets and facing a wide and two noballs, while the Don made 17 from 13 and faced a noball.

Thorpe and Daints started with Thorpe being caught from the jackpot, which like the previous two pairs made it harder to get a decent score. They lost just one more wicket when Daints was caught, and scored consistently from most of the balls. Most shots were 2s with one 3. They made 14 runs with Thorpe making 3 from 10 after the jackpot catch and facing a noball, while Daints made 9 from 12 after one wicket. our team score was 71.

The three jackpot wickets cost us 30 runs which could have made our total 101, but it wasn't to be on this day.

Their first pair made 25 with the overs taken by Thorpe (5), Rob (12), Mahstar (-1), Mr Cricket (9). The first over went 4, 2, 3, 1, dot and wicket, with Mahstar taking a one handed catch after the ball came off the net behind the keeper. The batters took to Rob a bit with scores from almost every ball faced. Mahstar's over started with a stumping and ended with a runout. Mr Cricket bowled tight.

The second pair made 35 with the overs bowled by Philbert (14), the Don (14), Mahstar (10), Bob (-3). The jackpot was hit for three and they stole a run to make a total of 8 from the ball.

The third pair needed 12 runs to pass our total, but made just 4 runs with the overs bowled by Mr Cricket (-5), Rob (7), Daints (-3), Thorpe (5). Mr Cricket was on a hattrick after a catch and bowled wickets. Daints bowled a near perfect over with two dot balls, then the third ball saw the batsmen hit the wicket with he bat as he was to far back on the stumps. Another two dot balls before a two was hit from the final ball.

The fourth pair needed 8 runs for victory and did it comfortably with the bowlers, Daints (8), Philbert (9), Bob (4), the Don (15). The batter decided to let Bob bowl the ball without defending the stumps for the last two balls he bowled, which a very arrogant thing to do in this grade. The two balls bounced over the stumps. What he should have done was ball it at the batsman as it might deflect onto the stumps. By that stage they were already 14 runs in front. The final over ended with two 7s and a catch. The final result was 71 to 100, which is our second loss for the season, but i think we will still be top of this grade.

Ladder that was posted on the board but no fully up to date. I think this is from before last week when we had the walkover.

Monday Black.
