New Years Day Cricket. (The view of Drew)

This is the anual match between Deb's team and Dave's team. They are the captains of the teams and try to make the teams even based on who turns up on the day. I was very late this year which meant I played on the team that was already batting. This turned out to be Deb's team, I batted last and played a few shots on the leg side to score a couple of runs. I got runout once when Dave through the stumps down. I got caught by Dave after i skied the ball. I played a reverse sweep shot that came off the bat so slowly that Jarrod had several seconds to move and catch the ball in the slips. I also got stumped once. We lost 3 runs for every wicket as each player faced 16 balls. Each over was 8 balls for this game.

The last shot I hit went down to mid on through the strike zone. The strike zone was marked out with cones and meant that a boundary in the zone was worth 8 runs and a over the boundary on the full was worth 12 runs. Deb's team ended up making 118 runs.

Dave's team had a stronger batting lineup and made 198 runs. I bowled my two overs with the first having all but a couple of balls hit to the boundary. I lacked alot of accuracy and most ended up reaching the batter on the full down legside. I got one ball to pitch on a good length that wasn't scored from... but conceeded a six and several fours.

My second over was bowled mostly to Jarrod, and had alot more accuracy than the first. I got a wrongin past the bat. I got hit for a few more boundaries and singles. I haven't seen the actual scorecard as yet, so I don't know the total of runs conceeded.

Liam O was awarded the player of the match for taking 4 wickets.. and not getting out whilst batting.

The weather held up for most of the day, with some occassional drizzle during the match, but nothing like last year. Last year we got rained out after the first team batted. When the sun came out is was really hot, the forecast was a max of 26. The game was over by 3pm, and at about 5.30 the storms started brewing, we received a much needed downpour last night we got about 39mm over about 2 hours. Unfortunately it probably won't soak into the ground properly.
