23rd October 2006 vs Black Hill Steve’s

This is our last game before the finals as we have a Bye in the last round.

Our lineup saw a return by Thorpe, with Bruce and the Don both out this week. This meant more partnership changes and it’s harder for the other pairs to beat Cap’n and myself in the pairs race.

Cap’n Bob and myself are the only regular pair for this match, with Pax and Daints being separated to partner Bendy and Thorpe respectively. King and Philbert were the other pair. There was no toss as the other team had only walked in the door when the umpire wanted to start the game and so we bowled first.

We made a really good start with Daints taking several stumpings within the first four overs. Their first pair made 9 runs after some nice bowling by King, Mahstar and Pax, The second pair made 19 with overs bowled by Philbert, Pax, Daints and Bendy. The third pair made 13 with Cap’n, Daints, Thorpe and King taking the ball. The last pair went for the back net a lot and succeeded for the most part making 38 runs having faced Bendy, Cap’n, Thorpe and Philbert. So we were set 80 runs for victory which is a slightly below average score, but can go either way at times.

Our batting started superbly with Bob hitting the jackpot ball to the back net for a total of 10 runs, then hit it again. We had 18 runs from the first over and made an easy 8 in the second over. We had the score at 27 before Bob was runout after playing a straight shot. We had recovered the score a little bit, but the last over Bob got out twice which saw the score drop a bit and we finished on 19 runs. Bob scored 7 from 11 and Mahstar scored 8 from 13.

Our second pair was King and Philbert and they started off poorly with wickets from the first two balls, they recovered pretty well with some good shots and ended up making 18 runs, including a 7, and a couple of 5s. as well as two more runouts. King made 7 from 12 and Philbert made 6 from 12.

Thorpe and Daints made a comfortable 23 runs which included two runouts and lots of shots for 2s.Their last over Daints faced the last four balls as extras. Thorpe made 6 from 11 balls and Daints made 9 from 13.

Pax and Bendy came in needing 20 runs and did it comfortably without losing a wicket they put on 33 runs. Pax made 11 from 15 and Bendy made 14 from 9 balls. So we won the game 93 to 79. This should now put us third on the ladder.

Some moments from the game, I knocked the ball down twice while bowling and perhaps I should have caught them but I don’t know how to. Daints picked up several stumpings early in the match. Overall we played a great game, and will have to play atleast that well in the finals if we are to beat the puppets. We will most likely face Black Hill Steves in the semi final
