Our player line up included, bob, david, pax, daints, Malpass, The Don, Super Dog, and myself.
We have played the Eureka Diggers on many occasions before, they had a couple of fillin players again tonight. We batted first with Super Dog and David opening the batting, they had a good understanding of when to take the runs and extra runs. After playing an air shot the first ball faced, they made 42 for the first pair. Cap'n Bob and Little Mahstar came in 2nd as we have all season. After the first couple of balls I faced, they decided to field two players on my leg side. We lost a couple of wickets, including a bad runout call, which at the time was annoying, but didn't make a difference in the result of the game. I got a couple of shots on the bat, got out caught to a good one handed catch. I called Bob through a couple of times when the ball hadn't travelled very far from him, but the fielders didn't have it, and we made the runs. We ended up making 19.
Malpass and The Don batted third pair with Malpass facing first. They had a great understanding of when to run, and when to steal runs. They hadn't lost a wicket until the third last ball when Malpass hit the ball which was knocked back just short of the net and then caught after the deflection. Malpass made up for it with a seven from the last ball to take their partnership to 48. Daints and Pax came in with the score on 109, they continued their brilliance from the previous weeks, and made an easy 24 to take our total score to 133.
Super Dog bowled the first over to the Diggers, and the first ball was hit towards the back net, it came from the side net onto the back net, then caught by Malpass. A brilliant start. His first over conceeded 4 runs total. I bowled the second over and got some wickets through catches and runouts, and conceeded -1. Pax bowled the third over and also held them down to close to zero. My second over was also to the first pair, first ball was slow and spun a little bit, which was just enough to beat the batsmen and Daints made the stumping. The next couple of balls landed just off the pitch, but were able to make a runout from one of them. I almost took a catch from my bowling, but missed it. There were some other wickets in the over too. Their first pair ended on -11. The Don took an awesome one handed juggled catch against the net. The ball bounced against the net three times before he held it.
Their second pair had to try and get the score back to positive which they only just managed to do, making 12. Their third pair played a bit smarter with some shot choices and made 23. This left the last pair needing to make 110 from the 4 overs to win. I questioned pax as to whether it was possible to lose a match from this position. Needless to say they couldn't make the total and put on 16 to take their total score to 42. A highlight of their batting effort was when one player let go of the bat and almost hit his partner, the bat landed three quarters of the way to the back net. They were 4th on the ladder.
We had a great game all round, particularly with the batting partnerships. There were also several great fielding efforts, with some close runouts by Bob and Dave. Daints continued his great wicket keeping, with Pax a great backup keeper.
It's a hard decision for the 3-2-1 voting from this match.
Next weeks match is at 7:40pm. I think there will be 3 games left before the finals. It's pretty close between 2nd, 3rd and 4th on the ladder.
